Suzanne is a sought out presenter on topics such as the role of improvisation in young children’s music acquisition and music literacy skills. She also presents on topics such as active listening, the development of musicianship in elementary grades, technology for musical creativity, service-learning and community engagement, and informances. She provides professional development for music teachers in the areas of musical assessment, curriculum development, and pedagogical methods for Pre-K through grade 8 students. Committed to the preparation of preservice teachers, Burton has given professional presentations on the importance of school-university partnerships, and contextual learning. Ever seeking to improve pedagogy of her own practice, Dr. Burton teaches K through 8th grade music at an area school and belongs to a pedagogical study group.
